Packet One Rolls Out P1 WiMAX Service in Malaysia
August 29, 2008
Malaysian WiMAX operator Packet One - which was granted one of Malaysia's four WiMAX licenses in the 2.3GHz spectrum - announced on August 26 that the company has officially launched WiMAX services under the brand name of P1 WiMAX, the Edge Daily of Malaysia reported.

Aiming to reach the target set by the Malaysian government that all WiMAX licensees should achieve a minimum coverage of 25% population by year-end 2008, various Malaysian WiMAX operators - including Packet One, REDtone, and Asiaspace - planned to commence services in August. According to the Malaysian government's guidelines, each licensee should achieve at least 40% population coverage in its allocated area within three years.

Other Malaysian WiMAX operators, including YTL E-Solutions and Asiaspace, are entitled to launch nationwide WiMAX services, while REDtone's licensed areas are limited to Sabah and Sarawak.
